"The muscle stripping is incredible…"

ShareThis

Going to see "The Running Doctor" in February was the last of a long list of things I tried to alleviate my pain. I love to run long distances and have been doing so for 25 years with relatively no pain. I'm not a fast runner but I could go forever. My running partners always referred to me as "the energizer bunny." Last June, during a long run, my leg cramped. It did so during my next couple of runs, also. Then my hip started to hurt, first one side, then the other. The pain continued to get worse but I continued to get worse but I continued running because I was getting ready to run the Marine Corps Marathon in October.

I ran the marathon, or more accurately, hobbled through the marathon, and of course my hip pain was worse. I tried taking over the counter medication for the pain but it didn't work well, either. I started going to Yoga classes hoping the stretching would help, but the pain was still there, like a headache. I finally called the Running Doctor because "running pain free" sounded pretty good.

I've been seeing Dr. Thomas regularly since February and I couldn't be happier. The muscle stripping is incredible, you can't imagine how good it feels when you have it done. I had orthotics made and during the adjustment period my feet hurt but during that time, Dr. Thomas and his staff treated my sore feet and helped me through it. I even started the detoxification program and am feeling energetic and healthy again.

Dr. Thomas' staff is incredible. They really listen to you and work hard to get you feeling better. I am very close to running pain free and definitely feel like I could tackle another marathon.

"…I ran my first marathon "pain-free"…"

I found my way to running later in life, after years of yo-yo dieting and sedentary living. At 52 I was 80 pounds over weight, on cholesterol medication, and heading towards high blood pressure. I realized that I was jeopardizing my future, and decided it was time to get serious about living healthy.

During my 13 months on Weight Watchers, I began walking and then running. My neighbor, Kim, got me off the treadmill and out running a few 10K races, which I really enjoyed. We began to run together regularly and kept adding mileage. In January 2005 we ran my first half marathon together, with a second half marathon in March. That's when my years of inactivity caught up with me. I overtaxed my IT Band and had to quit running for a month. My leg felt better so Kim and I began to train for the Huntsville Marathon in December 2005. Five weeks before the race my IT Band started acting up again, which is when I found Dr. Thomas, "The Running Doctor". After several sessions of ultrasound treatment and muscle stripping along with biomechanical adjustments to my spine and pelvis, my ITB was sound, and I ran my first marathon "pain free". Dr. Thomas continues to keep my legs and spine tuned, and Kim and I keep adding races.

I just turned 55 and now think of myself as a runner. I'm not fast but I am persistent. In the last 18 months I have run 3 marathons, 4 half marathons, 1 duathlon, and several 10Ks. Kim and I are scheduled to run the Chicago Marathon in October and the Las Vegas Marathon in December. We are also looking forward to running in the inaugural ING Atlanta Marathon in 2007, and many more races after that. I can now envision myself at 80 years old running in my 25th consecutive Atlanta Marathon. Dr. Thomas has his work cutout for him.

Best Regards,

"Thanks to Dr. Thomas, "The Running Doctor" …I am able to participate in cycling and swimming without pain."

Normally we do not go to the doctor until we have a problem and in my case I was having lots of problems with my legs and knees. I contacted Dr. Thomas and went in for a consultation and talked to him about treatment. It was to involve starting with x-rays followed by chiropractic treatments that were not just limited to normal adjustments. I received muscle stripping, electronic muscle stimulation, stretching, sports massage as well as heat and cold packs. The treatments did wonders for my legs and knees. Thanks to Dr. Thomas, "The Running Doctor", I can now say that I am able to participate in cycling and swimming without pain. I am much more flexible than before and although I had to give up running because of arthritis in my right knee I can still enjoy my other exercise activities. I continue to see Dr. T on a regular basis and I highly recommend him for anyone, especially if you are an athlete.
