Hamstring Injury Peachtree CityBob Dalton Past President of the Peachtree City Running Club
Thirty five years of high mileage, intense workouts and frequent racing finally took their toll resulting in a nagging hamstring injury earlier this year. I went to Dr. Thomas for treatment. Using ultrasound, muscle stripping and deep sports massage, I was able to get enough relief to continue to train and compete through the summer and fall racing season. With continued treatment from Dr. Thomas, I am confident I will be fully recovered and ready for the 2005 racing season. Bob Dalton & Rose KemptonRace Director- Peachtree City 15K Classic Another successful racing season has come to a close and I can confidently point to Dr. Thomas and his staff for much of the credit. I was training between 60-70 miles per week since the spring and had been racing and winning or placing in most of them. During that time I was getting sports massages and muscle stripping from Dr. Thomas and his crew on a regular basis. On Labor Day I ran the U.S. 10K Classic which was originally advertised as the "world's toughest 10K" because the course is basically one big hill after another. I did well, placing second master overall. Feeling overconfident the next day, I ran an "easy 12 miles" instead of following the "hard/easy" principle of training. Well, the day after that, within the first quarter mile of my run, I ended up pulling my hamstring while stepping up to a curb. I feared racing season was prematurely over for me again. Although I was foolish in thinking I could run hard several days in a row, the smartest thing I did was go straight to Dr. Thomas' office that evening as soon as I got home from work. I went for treatment three or four times over the next few days and he and his crew did some serious muscle stripping, ultra sound, and deep massage therapy. Amazingly, I was running again pain free within a week. With continued regular visits, I went on to break to the Georgia State age group record the next month at the Peachtree City Classic 15K. I also won my age group and took 2nd Master at the Atlanta half Marathon in November. Overall, it was a very successful racing season thanks to Dr. Thomas and his staff. They do their best to keep me injury free, but even when I overdo it, they are able to get me back on the road again. Read more Success Stories from the Running Doctor.
